How To Deal With a Bent iPad?
My valuable and expensive lesson learned
If you are reading this article, I am pretty sure you are as devastated as I was when I noticed my iPad was bent. Here are the last few photos I took of it.

In this article, I will cover the potential reasons for the damage(with my best analysis and research), the repair journey, and my recommendation to handle it. This a warm reminder that I am not a professional, so do estimate the risks when performing some fixes on your own.
Before we start, this is a little background:
My Device
- iPad Air (5th Generation), 64GB
- Purchased on Apr 2022
- Always protected with a cover
- Primarily use it for sketching and watching Netflix
- No additional Apple care purchased, but under the one-year warranty with limited repair service
As you can tell, it is a relatively new iPad within 5 months, and one day, I just found it bent…
Why does my iPad bent?
I never dropped my iPad on the floor, not even once, but I did bring it to work from time to time. The hotline and Genius Bar suspected the core reason was the unexpectedly intense pressure from my hand when I was drawing on my lap. They added that having the device with a cover may lead to overheating. And given that iPad material was meant to be slightly elastic, it may result in the bent.
How to fix a bent iPad?
There are some potential fixes that you can consider :
1. “May the force be with you.”
Some people recommend playing video or games on your iPad until it is relatively hot. Then, try to restore with your bare hand little by little. Also, you may try putting a lot of books on top of it and letting it rest overnight. I did see some people reported successfully restored afterward.
